Simone McGill - Teacher Melbourne Victoria

PRODUCTIVITY - COMMUNICATION - PERFORMANCE

  • Systems that work

Learn tools that work, develop staff engagement, connection, compassion and communication, for productivity and performance to be at your best.

Current research looks at how the brain responds to mindfulness practice, how relationships benefit, & how physical & mental health improves. Often seen as the equivalent of going to the gym for the mind, mindfulness is an emergent practice that relieves stress, asking people to slow down, stop, sit, relax, breathe, & take moments to be in the present. Research shows the power of a developed meditation/mindfulness practice to increase emotional intelligence, resilience, performance, compassion, connection and support the individual’s overall wellbeing. (1)
The EYI program educates & shares, contemplative mindfulness practices, shows why they work based upon scientific research, inspires & develops habits for teachers to integrate within their daily regime.
The practice of mindfulness has been scientifically proven to develop thickening of grey matter, which develops, self-awareness, self-regulation, connection & compassion.(1) Mindfulness has also shown brain changes within the emotive brain centre, these changes allow a responsive action, rather than a reactive response to life stresses.(2) The growth in these abilities allow for responsive & open mindset to engage with colleagues on support, advice & conversation, this all leads to improved competencies in communication, emotional intelligence, team play & leaderships skills, supporting collaborative & growth mindsets.
“Teacher stress & burnout have been an ongoing challenge in education. Providing resources to increase teachers’ sense of personal efficacy & ability to manage stress may reduce burnout. Reducing & managing teacher stress is part of a formula for promoting a healthy classroom environment. Retaining teachers & providing them with tools for self-care can translate into increased effectiveness in their role in the classroom. Supporting teachers’ ability to cope with the demands of the classroom & bolstering their own well-being is a necessity, with implications for students’ learning & school success.” (3)
Research is showing a dire need to support the wellbeing & stress related issues for the teaching profession. Statistics bring to light the gap of resource & education in developing strategies that support teacher’s wellbeing. This is where the EYI program fills the gap.

  • Integrative solutions

Integrate the tools and practices developed within the program to support you in and out of the classroom.

The program practices of mindfulness & reflection, enhances critical thinking and analytical skills by observing behaviours, sensations, relationships and actions. The program design is to enhance questioning and undertake self-evaluation, allowing greater access to reflect on triggers of stress, communication with peers, physical and emotional responses to enhance strategies, promoting health and wellness. Teachers, when faced with triggers, will have tools that support self-care. Teachers will analyse behaviours, acknowledge those that support a healthy lifestyle for sustainability and those that are detrimental to health and wellness. To support the reduction of burnout requires strategies that nurture wellbeing. Teachers engage in practices, processes and reflections to empower decisions that nourish personal care for longevity, communication and efficacy.

A teacher’s effectiveness has a powerful impact on students lives – supporting inspiration and consistent influence on education and wellbeing. To be inspiring and to be an effective teacher it is fundamental for wellbeing to be at its best. Teachers growth through the practice of the EYI tools of mindfulness and meditation, cultivate compassion, connection, awareness of self and others to bring forward tolerance, understanding and acceptance. Teachers who understand their stress triggers will be able to self-regulate emotional responses, to bring forward suitable responses to be appropriate to individual needs, while considering all rights of students unique circumstances.

The knowledge and practices learnt within the program are able to continue the teachers performance and wellbeing, in turn, more effective and efficient teacher to student outcomes.
